Skito Interpad for use with the Christ Bareback Pad

About 6 weeks ago I bought a Christ Pony Sized Bareback Pad for my hard to fit “A” frame Icey, but found that to cushion Selur’s spine from the internal webbing that attaches to the billets, I needed a deeper spine channel.

When I tried my favorite Skito Sensation pattern insert pad with 3/4″ foam underneath, it did the trick for Selur, but made it too bulky for me with the flap from the Christ pad and the flap from the Skito Insert Pad. I was also concerned about the “double” flap layers bunching and moving during our rides.

I contacted Tom at Skito to brainstorm a solution to this challenge. What we came up with was an Inter Pad which is essentially just the foam pockets w/o the full length flaps with 13/4″ standard Equalizer foam to form the spine channel depth we need, a 100% wool bottom to shield Selur’s spine and a lycra top with non slip strips along the whole length of the pad to prevent slippage with the sheepskin underside of the Christ Pad.

This combo works great to give me the closer contact, less hip spread I need while giving Selur the spine channel and cushioning he needs. The non slip strips along the top of the insert pad grip the sheepskin underside of the Christ pad like velcro while still being breathable.

I can now ground mount and even ride with stirrups (with an English Hunt Style breast plate in place for safety!) with this set up.

Definitely a two thumbs and 4 hooves up product!!

Happy Trails,

Kaaren
